In 1983, Billiken of Japan molded their very first model figure in vinyl:
the Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth. Billiken's Metaluna
Mutant was the first masterpiece by sculptor, Hayao Hama, who went on to
produce many fabulous prototypes for the company. The figure is molded in
purple vinyl, and designed for a simple, seamless assembly. It also
features many poseable parts for a variety of stances and diorama
possibilities. Once built, the Mutant stands nearly 10" tall, creating an
exact miniature replica of the famous '50's movie monster. Billiken would
quickly switch from polybag packaging to numbered boxes, making their few
